Why is user experience based

web design so important?

Simple. Without it; you won’t be seeing a proper ROI on your marketing efforts. Lot’s of traffic means nothing if you can’t convert it into conversions.

Let's dive in:

To start we need to consider the amount of time it will take to build that perfect website.
Even a basic website built the right way will take time.

Lets see an example of a basic 5 page website properly built for user experience:

  1. We will need to do the market research for the correct demographics for your product/services for the user experience based design which can take 2-5hours.
  2. It can take anywhere between 5 to 10 hours to create sample designs for your approval.
  3. It takes at least 2 hours to properly set up the backend and theme style for your new website (note this is without custom coding.).
  4. Then we need to either edit, source, create content for your website (Note content that is properly SEO optimised). This takes on averge 1-3hours per page depending on the amount of content.
  5. Amendments – and yes there is always some form of change and the average time spent on changes before going live is 2-3hours.
  6. Now we are ready to go live, but the website still needs to be set up for reporting, and listed on Google. This process takes another 1-2hours.
So all in on a basic properly developed 5-page website the designers would spend an average of 15hours.

Now we need to convert these hours into a monetary value:

The hourly rate for a decent web designer starts from R500ph to R1000ph depending on expertise.
In our case we have more than 18+ years experience and our hourly rates start at R700ph.
So lets take that 15hours X R700ph and that equals to R10,500.

The short and easy explanation is the following, but obviously there goes a lot more into it:

User experience design is the process of designing for a specific target market/audience in such a way to not only entice the visitors/viewers to want to know more but also lead them in a pleasing (psychological) way to perform a preferred action.

It’s great to at least have a basic site online, but it’s even better to have a website that will work for you and convert visitors into clients.

Unfortunately these days everyone believes they are a web designer and you don’t have to look long to find one. The issue with this is that we are flooded with websites that are not user friendly, not properly set up for SEO, and visitors spend little to no time on them. To be blunt; if you have one of these then you have taken one of your best return on investment methods and made it irrelevant.

By having a properly built website you immediately change the odds that are stacked against you for turning visitors into clients.

Proper web design is done by:

  1. User experience design based on your target market to lead visitors to perform actions.
  2. Proper SEO optimisation of all pages and content for organic Google search results.
  3. Proper indexing of your website on Google.
  4. Linked to reports that you can personally track to see what is working and what is not.

We live in a world where we are drowned in online content daily. Visitors don’t want to try to figure out where they should click, or waste time to find the information that they are after. If it’s too complicated and not user optimised then they will simply close the website and go elsewhere.

This is where User Experience design comes into play. It is the process of emotionally leading the visitor through a pleasing process to perform an action that will work in both their and your favour.

The answer is NO. For each industry it is different. Understandably so as each business industry deliver products/service to different demographics.

A simple example is; A mom to be looking for baby products would react differently than a young adult looking at adventure equipment. It’s an entirely different emotional experience.

Proper marketing research is needed and done to implement the correct user experience based on the correct target audience.

We come across this one on a regular basis, where clients are spending large amounts on advertising campaigns that are not leading to conversions.

In 99% of these cases we have noted that the website and/or page linked to the campaign was not created for user experience to lead the visitor in an enticing way to perform an action.

High amounts of traffic do not equate to a high amount of conversions. Time spent on a page and how a visitor interacts on the page is of the utmost importance.

By having a properly user experience based website, aimed at the correct target demographic, these clients could have spent less with a higher conversion ratio.
